FloatMed 2024

Italy is setting high ambitions for offshore wind, targeting 2.1 GW by 2030, with floating offshore wind as the primary technology to achieve this goal. In 2024, two key measures have been adopted that are positioned to drive the industry forward:

FER II Decree: The European Commission has approved Italy's FER2 Decree, which aims to promote renewable energy projects, including offshore wind. The scheme targets 4.6 GW of new capacity by 2028, focusing on innovative technologies. With a budget of 35.3 billion euros, the decree will be effective until December 2028. Auctions are expected early 2025, with the possibility of a Q4 2024 start.

Energy Decree: This decree includes measures to accelerate investments in renewable energy, with a particular focus on infrastructure like ports. Several Italian ports are currently being integrated into these initiatives.

FloatMed, held in Bari, is a key event this autumn for those involved in offshore wind in Italy. Its mission is to bring together stakeholders and technology leaders to discuss and propose solutions that will help Italy achieve its ambitious goals.
