Greek steel company to execute Norway-led European floating offshore wind projects

Moreld Ocean Wind AS and Lykomitros Steel SA has signed a MOU in Athens, aiming to win floating offshore wind projects in Europe together.

Wolfgang Wandl, CEO of Moreld Ocean Wind AS, and Christos Lykomitros, CEO of Lykomitros Steel SA, formally signed the Memorandum of Understanding during a Visit NOW organised by Norwegian Offshore Wind (NOW). The ceremony was held in Athens on April 15, 2024.

Moreld Ocean Wind AS is a leading independent technology provider specialising in Floating Offshore Wind solutions. Lykomitros Steel SA is a global steel fabricator in the offshore wind energy industry, intending to become a major, global player amongst manufacturers for floating and bottom fixed wind projects.

- After having screened modern European fabrication facilities with the latest robotic welding technology, Lykomitros had the most promising solutions. We are very pleased to have agreed with Lykomitros to execute our first European Offshore Floating Wind projects together. State of the art technology for industrialisation and efficiency, along on-time delivery track record and bottom fixed client feedback of offshore wind projects, convinced us, says Wolfgang Wandl, CEO of Moreld Ocean Wind.

Through close collaboration with the Hellenic Wind Association, ELETAEN, and with financial support from the EEA Grants, Norwegian Offshore Wind has facilitated constructive engagements between Norwegian and Greek companies, paving the way for enhanced cooperation and strategic alliances like this.

-The signing of the MOU is a direct result of Norwegian Offshore Wind’s strategic approach towards the Greek market and cooperation with ELETAEN. It is great to see that our efforts are creating value for our members, says Arvid Nesse, CEO Norwegian Offshore Wind, and adds:
